Workshop on Writing Scientific Papers for Students of the Biology Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Udayana University in 2023

This year's Biology Student Association (Himpunan Mahasiswa Biologi/Himabio) held a Scientific Writing Workshop which was held on February 11, 12 and 25, 2023. This writing training takes the theme "Optimization Personal Skills to be Innovative, Competitive and Productive Scientist in the Industrial Revolution 4.0" intended so that students are able to optimize their skills and knowledge in certain fields to become innovative, competitive and productive young researchers in facing the industrial revolution 4.0.

 

This activity is divided into 3 main phases, including phase 1 of which  an online Sharing Session using Cisco Webex video conference media is held on February 11, February 12 and February 25, 2023 which starts at 09.00 WITA until it is completed. Furthermore, the second phase is the collection of titles and abstracts and the distribution of supervisors. The last phase is collecting complete proposals by all participants. The participants who can take part in this activity are all active students of the Biology Study Program FMIPA Udayana University and are mandatory for students of the class of 2022.

 

In sharing session 1, 2 and 3 activities involved many lecturers and alumni as speakers. On the first day, topics on several fields in biology were presented by alumni, including the topic of Microbiology presented by Putu Angga Wiradana, S.Si., M.Si. Genetics & Molecular topics were presented by Viryanando Evan Rahardja, S.Si. Zoological topics were presented by Alia Ambara Putri, S.Si. Ecology topics were presented by Ni Luh Putu Mahendra Dewi, S.Si., M.Si. Botanical topics presented by Komang Kartika Indi Swari,  S.Si. With this, students are expected to get an overview of the competencies that will be obtained during the lecture period, current research topics and experience in conducting research.

 

The  second sharing session discussed the Introduction of Scientific Papers and Popular Papers and Reference Surgery, this material will be presented by biology lecturers Mrs. Dr. Ni Luh Suriani, S.Si., M.Si and Mrs. Prof. Ir. Ida Ayu Astarini, MSc, Ph.D. The material presented aims to enable students to be able to find and distinguish between relevant and non-relevant library sources,  And students are also able to quote, make citations and bibliography that are good and correct to avoid plagiarism.

 

Furthermore, in sharing session 3 discussed the Writing of Research Methods and sharing about Tips, Motivation, and Experience in Research. This material was presented by biology lecturers Mr. Dr. Deny Suhernawan Yusup, M.Sc.St. and Mr. I Made Saka Wijaya, S.Si., M.Sc. aimed to make students able to understand the preparation of writing good and correct research methods and enthusiasm in writing Scientific Papers.

 

With this activity, students are expected to be able to understand about scientific papers, procedures for finding and writing correct references, and be able to provide an image, develop creativity, new innovation ideas, and motivation to be able to conduct research. In addition, this training activity (workshop) was also held to prepare students, especially the Biology Study Program FMIPA Udayana University to be able to compete in various competitions related to scientific writing, both at regional, national, and international levels.
